Who We Are

Tschebull Antique Carpets, founded in 1982, is in Darien, Connecticut, about an hour north of New York City. The principals are Mike and Inge Tschebull. We are open by appointment, having given up our local gallery space because it was too expensive and too restrictive of our time. We can be reached by phone (203-655-6610) or e-mail.

On a reduced scale, we continue in the old rug business. We sell pieces woven with natural dyes and well-sorted hand-spun yarn, old rugs with character, art value, good color harmonies, and in good enough condition so that you can see the effects of light reflecting off the wool surface.

 

Inventory:

On this website, we try to show three views of selected inventory - one of the whole piece, one of a portion, and one close-up. Details give a better view of color than a single overall shot. Each rug has a description, but more information can be gained by contacting us via e-mail. Most of our stock is digitalized, so we can e-mail you additional images. It must be kept in mind that electronic images are a poor substitute for viewing the real thing.

Services:  

We buy rugs and will sell old rugs on commission; we do wash, repair, and appraisals, and consult on rug and carpet placement in homes or commercial locations. Given our longstanding contacts in the business, we are able to conduct searches for rugs, carpets and Islamic textiles if we don’t have what is desired.
