A commercial site, but with good information on rug and kilim structure, good digital images; information on an important publication by Ms. Mallett about rug structure.

Rug and carpet symposia, conferences, rug club sites:
American Conference on Oriental Carpets. USA-based biennial quasi-academic conferences held all over the country; quite social, mostly attended by collectors.
ICOC
International Conference on Oriental Carpets. Similar to the above, but at international venues; larger, more expensive, and more academic; mostly same audience.
The oldest rug club in the US; from time to time, they mount on-line exhibitions; contact for details.
Active and detailed site, with current and backlogged newsletters (the best among those put out by rug clubs) and an on-line prayer rug exhibition (as of 10/02)

The Fine Arts Museums of San FranciscoThe De Young Museum is reputed to have the best collection of 19th century rugs and carpets in the US. These URLs should access some of their rug collection.
